ABOUT ME

I strongly believe in the healing and educational power of storytelling. Let it be a fictional drama, an entertaining comedy, a to-the-bone documentary, or a playful animation, all those stories share valuable knowledge of how we should navigate life.

As a film editor, I feel responsible for telling each and every story in the best possible way. I always dig deep into the material to find its truth, shape the film with expressive images, and work meticulously on the characters to show them in their most complexity.

TESTIMONIALS

"My first feature documentary, Too Close dissects taboo topics, which Brigi handled with the utmost professional and ethical care, always putting the focus on the character's emotional development and the best possible dramaturgical solutions to tell the story. Her eye for details and associations spiced up the progress of editing. Always punctual and focused. Her empathy, kindness, and humor are the cherry on top, the reasons why she also became a close friend and why I would recommend her as a storyteller and editor." (Botond Püsök, director)

"Brigitta Bacskai offers real, practical knowledge in her courses with clear communication, even in English, and she is one of the few tutors who actually paves the way for her students' careers. It is only thanks to her that I am working in the film industry right now, and I make use of her teachings and advice on a daily basis." (Norbert Pusztai, assistant editor, former student at ELTE)

"I have been editing my movies myself till I met Brigitta. Now I can't imagine making any movies without her participation. She is one of my most important creative collaborators.

Brigitta is not just helping to give the final movie a fitting rhythm, but she is also interested in the dramaturgy of the script even before shooting. I always rely on her opinion. I am not overestimating when I say, I have become a better filmmaker working with her." (Ákos Badits, director)

"Brigitta Bacskai is an inspiring, extremely empathetic, and consistent teacher. She supports every determined student and treats them equally, adapting to the student's own abilities. Her courses are well-structured, interactive, and thought-provoking. Her expertise is evident. She passes on knowledge through practical exercises, making learning much easier. These are usually group projects, which also build community, so students don't compete with but motivate each other. In the exam, she only asks what's been discussed before. She's not afraid of debates, accepting that her point of view is not the only valid one. She gives feedback on assignments by thinking together with the student so that they can deem the conclusion their own. She dares to show her creative dilemmas by participating in tasks, inspiring students to do the same. She is constantly educating herself, by which she inspires her students. Brigitta Bacskai balances being friendly and strict, creating a free yet safe space for creative thinking." (Zsófia Bartha, film editor, former student at Eszterházy Károly University)

"Ms. Bacskai always holds interactive lessons. She is one of the few teachers who, during Covid time, have seamlessly transitioned from contact to online teaching. She gives very varied exercises in both media. I have always been able to turn to her outside of class with minor or even big problems, and she has always helped me."
